Famularo of Eastern Consolidated Arranges Lease for Thai Restaurant on Manhattan's Restaurant Row
NEW YORK, NY – April 17, 2018 – The husband and wife team behind Land Thai Kitchen and Pure Thai Cookhouse will be opening a new authentic Thai restaurant called Talad Wat featuring a menu comprised of the healthy, farm-to-table dishes they loved while growing up in a village outside of Bangkok.
James Famularo, Principal and Senior Director at Eastern Consolidated, negotiated the 12-year, 2,000-square-foot ground floor plus basement space at 714 Ninth Avenue on behalf of the landlord and restaurateurs David and Vanida Bank, who have owned and operated Land Thai Kitchen for 12 years on the Upper West Side and Pure Thai Cookhouse for seven years in Hell’s Kitchen.
“David and Vanida have a passion for preparing authentic food from their homeland, which has been the secret to their success,” said Famularo, who has arranged more than 20 leases for eateries on Ninth Avenue. “They have a devoted following at their existing restaurants, and I have no doubt that their new restaurant concept will be welcomed enthusiastically.”
Talad Wat, which means Temple Market, will serve meals like the ones Vanida’s grandmother brought to dinners at their temple in Ratchaburi where she grew up and where her family has owned and operated a noodle shop for three generations. A desire to return to their roots, is prompting the couple to look for older, more experienced workers like Vanida’s grandmother who know how to prepare foods in the old style.
While restaurants in New York City focus on fast orders, David said he and Vanida use all fresh ingredients, shunning frozen food. “We love the food and love to cook,” Vanida said. “We make everything that we like to eat.”
After spending 20 years in New York City, David said he knows the market is ready for a restaurant like Talad Wat. “We understand the market and what New Yorkers are ready for,” said David, who got his start in Vanida’s family’s restaurant and began his culinary training in New York City with such notable chefs as Jean Georges Vongerichten and Tadashi Ono.
Famularo said the location at 714 Ninth Avenue was highly sought after and that he had five competing offers for the space. He’s currently marketing a restaurant space at 809 Ninth Avenue with 1700 SF over 1700 SF and another space ideal for a restaurant at 771 Ninth Avenue that has 3500 SF on the ground with a 2000 SF Mezzanine.
Other leases Famularo has already arranged on Ninth Avenue include Badshah at 788 Ninth Avenue; Kings of Kobe at 790 Ninth Avenue; Rice Burger at 746 Ninth Avenue; Chaan Teng at 700 Ninth Avenue; Little Italy Pizza at 696 Ninth Avenue; Southern Hospitality at 645 Ninth Avenue; OBAO at 647 Ninth Avenue; City Sandwich at 649 Ninth Avenue; Wrapido at 673 Ninth Avenue; Fuel Grill & Juice Bar at 683 Ninth Avenue; Casa Agave at 693 Ninth Avenue; Uni K Wax at 695 Ninth Avenue; and Atlas Social Club at 753 Ninth Avenue.
